The making of Por El Río - Clockshop
Artists Christopher Suarez and Timo Fahler, along with Andrés Cortes, gather raw materials for Suarez’s collaborative piece titled Por El Río, a public art installation commissioned by Clockshop. The piece is created solely using materials and objects found along the LA River. Por El Río traces the visual languages and utilities of the channelized river and the 710 Freeway, both of which define the convergence of land and city. Suarez, who often works in clay miniatures of built environments central to immigrant communities, designs a site for human-scale gatherings. Together, the artists produce functional architectures that examine the personal and civic histories embedded in these spaces, while investigating the dislocations of people and wildlife caused by modern transit infrastructure.
